How cache works in google Drive app?

Google drive is a cloud app. It securely stores your files in the clouds. However, cache helps in fast loading and smooth working of the app. Cloud apps like Google Drive works on two tiers i.e., client side and server side. Both clients and servers take some time to send and receive data.

Let us understand with this example. Suppose, you have a video stored in Google servers. When you request the video through the Google Drive app, the first thing Google servers do is send the title and thumbnail of the video. Then the video starts loading(downloading) in your device.

At that point, Google Drive stores the video's title and thumbnail in a cache folder. When you request the same video, first of all Google Drive sends the request to cache folder, if the title and thumbnail of the video are present in the cache folder, then they will be shown first. Then it sends a request to the server for the rest of the video. In this way, it saves a lot of time and data. It also improves the overall user experience.

Conclusion

Caches are the temporary files stored in your device. Cache size is the amount of data that an app or service can store in your device. These are the temporary files used for fast loading of the website or app.
